Hello!  Dà-jiā hǎo! 大家好!  I'm offering three Chinese classes at Washtenaw Community College, starting February 2011.  I hope to see you there!  We'll have lots of fun learning basic conversations.  We'll delve into some essential Chinese characters, too.  For detailed information about each class, just have a look at the introductions below.  If you have any questions -- including how to register! -- feel free to email me at kimfu@umich.edu or call me at 734-669-0188.

Hope to see you in class!
Qī-dài gēn nǐ-men jiàn-miàn!
期待跟你们见面!

Chinese Conversation 1
8 Tuesday nights
From February 8 to March 29
7:00 to 9:00pm

Nǐ hǎo! 你好! (Hello!)  In this class, you'll take your first steps toward learning the language spoken by 1/5th of the world's population.  You'll discover how to greet people, give simple information about yourself, say numbers up to 100, and order in a restaurant.  You'll reinforce these newfound skills through lively, in-class games and conversations.  At semester's end, you and your classmates will celebrate your learning by ordering a complete meal at a delectable Chinese banquet.  And you’ll order in Chinese, of course!

Chinese Conversation 2
 7 Tuesday Nights
From April 12 to May 24
7:00 to 9:15pm

Duō-shǎo qián? 多少钱? (How much is it?)  In this class, you'll continue your discovery of Chinese by delving into the world of money, shopping, and bargaining.  You'll also expand your ability to converse outside the marketplace.  For example, you’ll learn the most important survival phrase of all:  Where’s the bathroom?  Plus, you'll take your language experience to a whole new level by exploring Chinese characters, including the ones in your Chinese name.  Last but not least, you’ll crown a semester of learning by sitting down to a Chinese banquet, where you and your classmates will do all of the ordering.

Chinese Conversation 3
7 Tuesday nights
From June 7 to July 19
7:00 to 9:15pm

Zhè shì wǒ péng-you! 这是我朋友!  (This is my friend!)  This phase of your Chinese journey will take you to days of the week, months of the year, and dates.  You’ll also find out how to talk about your birthday and sing the “Happy Birthday!” song.  You'll learn to make introductions, too, and describe your family and friends.  Don’t forget your photo album!  To wrap things up, get ready for a scrumptious end-of-semester feast.  And you’ll be in charge of telling the waiter what we’re going to eat – in Chinese, of course!

Too busy for a class, but still want to learn about the Chinese language and culture?  No problem! Méi wèn-tí! 没问题!  Simply join my Yahoo! group.  It's also called "3 Hours A Day."  You'll receive 3 to 5 emails every other week, all about China.  Just contact me at kimfu@umich.edu.  I'll add you to the group.  And welcome! Huān-yíng! 欢迎!
